Ayşenur’s Brave Struggle, A Life Given for Peace
Ayşenur Ezgi Eygi never gave up fighting against injustice throughout her short 26-year life. Eygi, who participated in various actions for black people, Rohingya Muslims and nature at different times, lastly fought for peace in Palestine. Ayşenur, who lost her life when Israeli soldiers opened fire during a peaceful demonstration she attended in support of Palestinians in the West Bank, left behind a symbol of resistance.
Eygi’s father, Mehmet Suat Eygi, tearfully recounted that his daughter had reminded him many times before going to the West Bank that she could die, but Ayşenur had not given up her decision, saying, “If my death will serve a purpose, I will accept it, father.”

Ayşenur, who was at the forefront of pro-Palestinian demonstrations at Washington University, fought a great struggle against the oppression that Israel inflicted on the Palestinian people. Ayşenur decided to go to the West Bank to be able to support the Palestinians more. However, this decision marked the end of her life.

Ayşenur’s father, Mehmet Suat Eygi, says that his daughter had a rebellious nature that always rebelled against injustice. “But she was a rebel against injustice. She would help everyone regardless of religion, language, race or gender,” he said, indicating that his daughter lived a life dedicated to human rights. Emphasizing that many people from different political views attended her daughter’s funeral ceremony held in Didim, Eygi said that Ayşenur lived a life above politics.
Eygi also stated that the state was with them at every stage and that they felt the support of the state during the legal process after the funeral. He added that they will do their best to keep Ayşenur’s memory alive during this process.
Traces of an Angel
Ayşenur’s help to people was often kept secret even from her family. Father Eygi stated that his daughter was someone who constantly helped those around her but did not talk about it. Father Eygi, who had the opportunity to see his daughter one last time in the morgue when she was brought to Didim, used the expressions “like an angel” when describing the peace and beauty on his daughter’s face. He stated that he found peace after his daughter’s death and was proud of her idealistic lifestyle.
Activist Ayşenur’s Last Periods Dedicated to Palestine
It is known that Ayşenur Ezgi Eygi has recently devoted all her energy to Palestine. Ayşenur, who protested the Israeli occupation with speeches she gave at her university in Seattle before going to the West Bank, set out on this dangerous journey despite all her father’s warnings. Despite her father’s warnings, “Don’t go, it’s too dangerous,” Eygi, who said that she was determined to go to the region by saying, “What’s going on there needs to be heard,” was soon targeted by Israeli soldiers’ bullets.
It is also known that Ayşenur moved everyone in the condolence house with a letter left after her death. The letter praised Ayşenur’s courage and commitment to human rights, and mentioned young girls who wanted to follow in her footsteps.
