Mehmet Uçum: New Resolution Process Not Possible, Turkey Continues to Maintain Its Power
Presidential Advisor Mehmet Uçum gave a clear response to the claims that a new “resolution process” will be launched in Turkey. Uçum stated that such allegations are unrealistic and emphasized that there is no possibility of trying again the solution processes implemented in the past. He said that Turkey has learned from past experiences and developed new and effective methods in the fight against terrorism. Stating that the political and military strategies implemented especially after the July 15 coup attempt will continue with determination, Uçum said that it is not possible to soften or abandon these strategies.
Solution Process Will Not Return
In his statement, Mehmet Uçum made it clear that there is no question of repeating an initiative similar to the solution processes of the past. “Claims that a solution process will be initiated with expressions such as softening, normalization and handshakes are completely baseless. The state cannot try again the ways it has tried and failed to get full results,” he said, adding that Turkey will continue to adopt a clear stance on this issue. Uçum emphasized that this process has been lost to history and that a similar attempt will never be made again.
Determination in the Fight against Terrorism
Uçum stated that Turkey’s fight against terrorism continues both domestically and across borders and that important steps have been taken in this process. Stating that the existence of terrorism in Turkey has been almost completely eliminated, Uçum said that this struggle has been further strengthened with cross-border operations. “With the cross-border security zones, a process has begun in which terrorism will be completely eliminated and there will be no step back from this process,” he said, reiterating Turkey’s determination.
Dialogue in Parliament and Politics
Mehmet Uçum pointed out that while pursuing a tough strategy in the fight against terrorism, dialogue and constructive language in politics should not be excluded. Emphasizing that the Turkish Grand National Assembly is the highest state power in terms of dialogue and developing a common language, Uçum pointed to the importance of political actors adopting a constructive language under the roof of the Parliament. He stated that every opportunity for cooperation and dialogue should be utilized to strengthen Turkey’s unity and democracy.
A Solution Should Be Presented to DEM
Another noteworthy point in Mehmet Uçum’s speech was the need to end the tutelage of some political movements and terrorism-related tutelage in Turkey. Uçum argued that especially DEM should be freed from the tutelage of terrorism. Stating that a perspective that excludes terrorism in social and political terms should be adopted, he said, “If the DEM does not use this opportunity offered to it, the tutelage of terrorism will be eliminated through the TBMM through the law.”
New Constitution and Democratic Gains
Uçum said Turkey needs a stronger constitution as it enters the second century of the Republic. “If the terrorist tutelage is buried in history, the Turkish Grand National Assembly will have the opportunity to realize a strong constitution that will protect Turkey’s unity and integrity and build on democratic gains,” he said, adding that opportunities for a new constitution should not be missed. This new constitution can be created through dialog and cooperation to strengthen Turkey’s unity and democracy.
Conclusion State Continues on the Road with Strong Strategies
Mehmet Uçum’s statements indicate that Turkey will continue its fight against terrorism with determination and will not return to approaches such as the solution process of the past. Uçum states that Turkey should not miss the opportunity to further strengthen its democracy and integrity with a new constitution and calls for dialog and cooperation in politics.
