The Digital Era Begins: Duty Stamps Are Being Lifted
As of January 1, 2025, a radical change will be made in the payment of exit fees abroad. Duty stamps will be completely removed and a digital payment system will be adopted. In the new period, fees can be easily paid through the Revenue Administration Presidency (GİB) mobile application, digital tax office, contracted banks and cash desks at airports.
Paperless Transaction Era
This regulation aims to save paper and accelerate digitalization. Information posters were hung at many points, especially at Istanbul Airport, and announcements were made for passengers to prepare for the digital system. The information posters included the following statements: “The stamp period ends as of January 1, 2025. You can easily pay your fees through the digital system.”
The New Duty System Will Provide Convenience for Passengers
Thanks to the digital payment system, long queues and paperwork will come to an end. Passengers will be able to complete their transactions in a few minutes using the GİB mobile application. In addition, banks’ internet branches and fast payment points at airports will also offer alternative options.
How Were the Increase and Digitalization Decision Received?
The increase in the exit fee abroad was met with different reactions, especially by citizens who travel frequently. While some citizens stated that the increase was high, there were also those who expressed their satisfaction due to the ease of transactions provided by digitalization.
The Target is Green Transformation and Convenience
According to the statement made by the Revenue Administration (GİB), the transition to a digital payment system will prevent paper waste and support an environmentally friendly approach. In addition, digitalization will ensure that transactions are more transparent and faster.
What to Expect in the Future?
The digital system to be implemented as of 2025 will bring both time savings and an environmentally friendly approach. Citizens who will not have to wait in line for fee transactions will be able to complete their transactions quickly via the internet and mobile applications. Authorities state that the new system will be user-friendly and that passengers will be supported during the transition process.
