The New York Turkish American Center hosted the Çanakkale Martyrs Commemoration Program on Saturday, March 16. Afterwards, NYTAC Academy’s theater show was staged. The play “Understanding Mustafa Kemal” written and directed by internationally acclaimed playwright Asmin Nimet SİNGEZ and the play “Çanakkale Geçilmez” received great acclaim and full marks from the audience. NYTAC ACADEMY School students took part in the show for the first time and young people living in America performed in Turkish. The activities of the school, where our culture is kept alive, attract the attention of both the Turkish and American community with the devoted educators Aynur ARSLAN, Asmin Nimet SİNGEZ, school principal Kübra ISITAN, art teacher Isilay YILDIZ.
NY Turkish American School students and parents, guests and participants discovered Turkish traditional shadow play in cooperation with YTB, TARF and Diyanet Center of America. TAASNY presented Karagöz and Hacivat Shadow Play in the program. With its 700 years of history, the Karagöz and Hacivat Shadow Play is an indispensable part of Ramadan for children. Tasvir Production Workshop (for children) organized a workshop. In this important event, NYTAC President Mr. Erol Akyürek made an opening speech and commemorated our Çanakkale Martyrs. NYTAC Board Member Seçkin Yıldız, Turkish American Art Society President İbrahim Yazıcı, TAASNY Vice President Aysen Darcan, Asian Jade Society Vice President and SCPD Police Officer Thomas Joy, International Media Director Melih Göğebakan also attended the program.
