International Media Coordinator Melih Göğebakan made striking statements about many associations and community leaders operating in the US. Göğebakan stated that there are about 100 associations in the US, large and small, and claimed that some of them are “nylon associations” and most of them serve their own interests.
Göğebakan said that a particularly striking issue is that some associations operating in the US cooperate with people wanted in Turkey and represent them on behalf of the Turkish community. Göğebakan claimed that despite the risk of these individuals being prosecuted in Turkey, they use this situation for their own benefit by presenting themselves as community leaders through various methods and receiving money from Turkey.
Göğebakan stated that the so-called associations in the US should be urgently investigated and that many of them seek to gain personal benefits from Turkey by deceiving the Turkish community on the internet. He said that they have conveyed their concerns to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and shared the necessary information.
Göğebakan also drew attention to some community leaders who he believes are still affiliated with the FETÖ terrorist organization. Göğebakan claimed that these people were operating on behalf of the Turkish community in the United States, but that they were wanted by FETÖ because they could not travel to Turkey.
