CHP announced that the 2025 minimum wage increase is insufficient. On December 28th, a rally will be organized and awareness raising activities will be carried out.
CHP Finds Minimum Wage Increase Insufficient: Decision for Rally and Action
The Republican People’s Party (CHP) reacted strongly to the minimum wage of 22,104 TL set for 2025. The CHP’s Central Executive Board (MYK) decided that this increase was insufficient, and a series of action plans were formulated to express the public’s reaction.
CHP: “Millions in Livelihood Crisis”
CHP Deputy Chairwoman Gamze Taşcıer said after the meeting that the minimum wage is the main source of livelihood for millions of citizens. Taşcıer said, “Instead of increasing the purchasing power of workers, this figure leaves them in an even more difficult situation. Laborers are again paying the price of the wrong economic policies of the government,” she said.
Taşcıer also stated that the increase is insufficient in the face of inflation and said, “This increase, which is even below the increase a year ago, is far from meeting the basic needs of workers. The government is turning a deaf ear to the people’s livelihood problems,” he said.
Big Rally Preparation in Ankara
The CHP has announced that it will organize a rally in Ankara’s Tandoğan Square on Saturday, December 28 to protest the increase in the minimum wage. The rally, which will be supported by trade unions and civil society organizations, will raise economic problems and the difficulties faced by workers.
CHP Chairman Özgür Özel is expected to speak at the rally and criticize the government’s economic policies. Özel emphasized the importance of the rally, saying, “This struggle is not just a matter of a pay raise, but a struggle for justice and equality.”
Launching an Awareness Campaign
In addition to the rally, CHP MPs will go out on the streets in groups of 10 to have one-to-one contact with citizens. The party will raise public awareness by distributing brochures and organizing informative events.
Gamze Taşcıer explained the purpose of this campaign as “to tell everyone how the government ignores laborers.” CHP deputies will directly convey the causes and solutions to economic difficulties to the public.
Goal: Reaching All Sections
The party will organize campaigns not only in big cities but also in small towns. Meetings are planned to be held especially in industrial zones and labor-intensive areas. Taşcıer stated that this process is not just an action plan, but a project to increase the economic awareness of the public in the long term.
Support from Trade Unions
The CHP’s decision to hold a rally was also supported by labor unions. Unions such as DISK and TÜRK-İŞ argued that the minimum wage has been eroded by inflation and should be re-evaluated. Union representatives stated that workers should be given an additional raise in order to achieve humane living conditions.
Harsh Criticism of the Government
CHP accused the government of failing to protect the public against inflation. Gamze Taşcıer said, “The government is trying to save the day instead of finding solutions to the problems of the people. We will not remain silent against this mistake and will continue to defend the rights of laborers.”
Conclusion Decisive Struggle
CHP stated that it will continue its struggle for a fair increase in the minimum wage. The party plans to garner public support through rallies and field work, and aims to draw public attention to economic problems.
