Cold and stormy weather will be effective across Turkey: Critical Warnings from Meteorology

According to the latest forecasts of the General Directorate of Meteorology, Turkey is under the influence of heavy rain, snow and storms. While frost, icing and avalanche hazard stand out in the eastern parts of the country, showers and strong winds are expected in the west. It was stated that citizens should be careful and cautious against disruptions in transportation.

Strong Precipitation and Wind at the Door
According to the statement made by Meteorology, local strong downpours will be seen around the Eastern Mediterranean, Gaziantep, Kilis and Adıyaman. It is reported that the wind speed can reach up to 60 kilometers per hour in the west of Marmara and the Coastal Aegean.

Precipitation is expected to be in the form of sleet in the interior regions and snow in high areas. Snowfall is expected to be effective in the Eastern Black Sea and Eastern Anatolia.

Risk of Frost and Icing Increases
Frost and icing is expected especially in the interior and eastern parts of the country. Authorities are urging drivers and pedestrians to be careful due to possible icing in the morning and night hours. It is stated that there may be a decrease in visibility in regions where fog and haze will also be effective.

Avalanche risk continues on the steep slopes of the Eastern Black Sea and Eastern Anatolia. People living in the region were asked to be careful against avalanche danger.

Air Temperatures Falling
Air temperatures are expected to drop to seasonal normals with precipitation in the west, while they are expected to remain above normal in the east. While the wind is expected to blow strongly from the southern directions in the west, it is reported that a storm effect may be seen in places.

Provincial Weather Forecast

Marmara Region: Partly and very cloudy weather will prevail in provinces such as Istanbul, Edirne and Çanakkale. The wind is expected to blow strongly in the afternoon.
Aegean Region: Intermittent showers will be seen around Izmir and Manisa. Wind is expected to accelerate especially in coastal areas.
Mediterranean Region: Strong showers and thundershowers are expected east of Antalya and around Adana.
Central Anatolia Region: Partly cloudy weather is expected around Ankara and Konya, while snowfall is possible at higher elevations.
Black Sea Region: Rain will be effective around Samsun and Trabzon. Snowfall may be seen in the higher parts of the Eastern Black Sea.
Eastern Anatolia Region: Snowfall will increase around Erzurum and Kars. Attention should be paid to frost in the morning and night hours.
Southeastern Anatolia Region: Heavy rain is expected in Gaziantep and Kilis, and sleet is expected at higher elevations.

Warnings and Precautions
Meteorology stated that caution should be exercised against flooding, flooding, roof blowing and disruptions in transportation due to strong rainfall and wind. Due to the risk of frost and icing, citizens engaged in agricultural production were advised to take additional precautions.

It was also stated that those living in areas with avalanche risk should not go to mountainous areas unless necessary.
