Denial of the Allegation of New Vehicle Purchase: 500 Vehicles to be Purchased for Public Needs, Not for the Ministry
CHP Izmir MP Sevda Erdan Kılıç’s claim that the Ministry of Treasury and Finance plans to buy 500 vehicles for itself within the scope of the 2025 budget was denied by the Ministry in an official statement. Ministry officials stated that the allegation did not reflect the truth and that the vehicles in question were not allocated directly to the ministry, but were planned for the administrations within the scope of central government to meet the urgent and compulsory needs of the public. The CHP deputy also stated that he would correct some of the points he misunderstood.
Ministry: “Vehicles are planned for the needs of central administrations”
In its statement, the Ministry emphasized that Kılıç’s allegation misinformed the public and that it was necessary to make a statement in order to correct this erroneous perception. “The deputy was informed that the allegation was unfounded and stated that he would make the necessary correction,” the statement said. The Ministry stated that the alleged vehicles were not allocated directly to the use of the ministry, but were listed in the T Schedule as vehicles allocated “to meet the needs of the administrations within the scope of central government”, which caused misunderstanding among the public.
Vehicle Law and Budget Details
According to the statement, vehicle purchases in Turkey are made in accordance with the Vehicle Law. According to this law, it is not legally possible to purchase vehicles that are not foreseen in the budget. It was emphasized that the vehicles added to the budget will be distributed according to the service needs of public institutions, not the ministry. It was also stated that these vehicles were allocated for use in public services and that especially locally produced electric vehicles were preferred.
The Ministry stated that locally produced electric Togg vehicles will be prioritized in the procurement of the vehicles needed, and that these vehicles will be used in line with the goal of both supporting domestic production and providing environmentally friendly solutions in public services. Accordingly, it was emphasized that the use of electric vehicles in public services is an environmentally friendly policy.
Warning of Misleading Information to the Public
The statement also drew attention to the misrepresentation of the issue in various newspapers and media organs. The Ministry stated that a wrong perception was created in the public opinion with false headlines such as “Minister Şimşek is building a fleet for himself” and that misleading news should not be taken into consideration. Ministry officials stated that such allegations, which do not reflect the truth, misinform the public about public services, and therefore it is of great importance to provide accurate information. Emphasizing that the vehicles to be purchased for public service are not directly for the personal use of the Ministry or the Minister, he reiterated the need to be careful against misinformation.
CHP Deputy Admits Misunderstanding
Following the statement, the Ministry stated that the CHP deputy was informed about the issue and that he would correct his misunderstood claim. It is learned that deputy Kılıç stated that he was reviewing the details of his allegations against the ministry and that he would make a new statement to the public on this issue.
