Istanbul, Leader in Exports: Exceeded 5 Billion Dollars in November

Turkey’s export performance reached a remarkable success in the January-November period of 2024. While the export volume of 30 provinces exceeded 1 billion dollars, Istanbul was at the top with exports of 5 billion dollars. However, Istanbul managed to maintain its leadership despite a slight decline in exports compared to the same period last year.

Istanbul’s Export Performance
According to data released by the Ministry of Trade, Istanbul realized exports totaling 5 billion 38 million dollars in November. Although this figure represents a 12.8% decrease compared to the same period last year, it enabled the city to maintain its leading position.

After Istanbul, Kocaeli (2 billion 528 million dollars) and Izmir (1 billion 973 million dollars) were the provinces with the highest export figures, respectively.

Prominent Sectors
The precious stones sector ranked first in Istanbul’s exports with a volume of 956 million 732 thousand dollars. Knitted apparel and boilers stood out among Istanbul’s other strong sectors.

Kocaeli became the leader in this field by reaching a figure of 887 million dollars in motor vehicles exports, while mineral fuels and oils led the way in Izmir with exports of 484 million dollars.

Most Exported Countries
As in Turkey as a whole, there are remarkable differences in the export routes of Istanbul, Kocaeli and Izmir:

Istanbul’s biggest market was the US with exports worth 385 million dollars.
The UK stood out in Kocaeli’s exports.
Izmir attracted attention with 180 million dollars worth of exports to the US.
This diversity is considered an important indicator of market differentiation and regional sector diversity in Turkey’s foreign trade.

Export Success Across Turkey
In the January-November period, a total of 30 provinces realized exports worth more than 1 billion dollars. Moreover, 59 provinces managed to increase their exports compared to the same period last year. These data show that Turkey’s export-oriented growth strategy is also effective in different regions.

Istanbul’s Leadership in Exports
Istanbul maintains its leading position in Turkey’s foreign trade. However, the 12.8% decline in exports may be due to fluctuations in global trade dynamics. The precious stones and textile sectors, which stand out in Istanbul’s exports, are directly affected by changes in global markets.

Turkey’s Future in Foreign Trade
Turkey’s export performance in 2024 is characterized by regional success stories. Istanbul’s leadership, Kocaeli’s strength in industrial exports and Izmir’s performance in the energy sector play a critical role in achieving Turkey’s export targets.
