MIT Coordinated Cyber Espionage Operation, 9 More Arrested
Nine more people have been arrested in a comprehensive cyber espionage operation coordinated by the National Intelligence Organization (MIT) in cooperation with the Gendarmerie General Command (GGK) and the National Cyber Incidents Response Center (USOM). With this latest operation, the number of arrests in the investigation has risen to 20. This intervention, one of the most important operations in the field of cyber security in recent years, has once again demonstrated the importance Turkey attaches to cyber security.
Big Blow to Cyber Espionage Network
The operation conducted by the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office was part of a long-standing investigation. During the operations carried out under the coordination of MİT, it was determined that suspects were selling critical information they obtained through various social media platforms to various individuals and groups, including terrorist organizations. This information generally consisted of data sensitive to Turkey’s security.
18 Websites Shut Down
During the operation, 18 websites through which the suspects were selling information were blocked. It was determined that the personal data disseminated through these websites and used by organized crime gangs to blackmail citizens were particularly effective on young people and children. With this method used by cybercrime organizations, it was aimed to obtain the personal information of individuals and then gain unfair gains through blackmail.
Data was being sold to terrorist organizations
These operations carried out by MİT and USOM led to a deeper investigation into the cyber espionage network. The seized evidence showed that the suspects illegally sold the sensitive data they obtained to terrorist organizations over the internet. These transactions, especially through social media platforms, were identified as part of a large network.
It was also found that the suspects used the data they obtained to blackmail and threaten citizens. With this method, especially children and young people were targeted and their personal information was misused. Organized crime gangs were using this information in different ways, demanding money from individuals or pressuring them to commit certain crimes.
Expanding Cyber Security Measures
This successful operation by MİT and USOM once again demonstrated Turkey’s determination to protect its cyber security. Cyber espionage is recognized as one of the biggest threats of the modern world and such operations are vital to ensure the safety of citizens. The seized data is being analyzed in detail and the broader dimensions of the criminal network are being investigated.
Cyber Security Operations Will Continue Increasingly
Officials say that such operations will continue to increase and that Turkey’s cyber security will not be jeopardized in any way. It was emphasized that stronger security measures will be taken to prevent such attacks, which are especially effective on young people and children. The fight against criminal activities on the internet will be expanded and anyone involved in illegal activities will be identified and brought to justice.
Conclusion Turkey is Moving Forward with Determination in Cyber Security
This cyber espionage operation has once again demonstrated how careful and determined Turkey is in the field of cyber security. Such operations conducted by MİT are of great importance to ensure the safety of citizens in the digital world. Expanding operations and further strengthening cybersecurity proves that Turkey is always ready against digital threats.
