Speaking to reporters after Friday prayers, the President emphasized Turkey’s stance on developments in the region and calls for international cooperation.

Advancement of the Opposition in Syria
President Erdoğan reminded that opposition groups in Syria were advancing towards Damascus via Idlib, Hama and Homs, and said that these developments were affecting regional balances. Erdoğan said, “We wish for this march in Syria to continue without incident or trouble,” and expressed that Turkey was closely following the process through both intelligence and the media.

The President also recalled the call for cooperation made to the Assad regime in the past, saying, “We said, ‘Come, let’s determine the future of Syria together,’ but we did not receive a positive response.”

Troubles in Lebanon and the Golan Heights
Erdoğan also touched on other crises in the region besides Syria. Underlining the devastating situation in Lebanon and the Golan Heights, the President pointed to the meeting he will hold with the Prime Minister of Lebanon and said, “The region is in trouble. As Turkey, we will continue to do our best.”

Drawing attention to the requests for assistance from Egypt, Erdoğan stated that Turkey will provide both in-kind and cash assistance to meet these requests. Turkey’s assistance is a message to the world community regarding the resolution of crises in the region and humanitarian support.

United Nations and Global Cooperation
Referring to his meeting with United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, Erdoğan emphasized that the UN supports efforts to make the ceasefire permanent in the region. Erdoğan stated that the international community should cooperate and show a common will to resolve the crises in the region.

Criticism Towards Israel

Erdoğan said, “Humanity will not leave Israel alone with its steps and genocides,” and expressed that Turkey will continue to play an active role in this regard.
