Shocking Statements and Confessions in Diyarbakır Murder Trial

Conflicting Testimonies and New Details in Murder Case

In the ongoing trial regarding the murder of eight-year-old Narin Güran in Diyarbakır, the contradictory statements of family members have taken on a dimension that affects the course of the trial. Mother Yüksel Güran, brother Enes Güran, uncle Salim Güran and Nevzat Bahtiyar, who is accused of covering up the murder, were present in the courtroom. After the first hearing, which lasted approximately 14 hours, witnesses were called to testify on the second day. During this process, new statements were made in court due to inconsistencies in previous statements. As tense moments unfolded in the courtroom, the testimonies of the defendants and witnesses painted a complex picture.

Abi Baran Güran and his statements

Narin’s brother Baran Güran, who took the stand first to testify, claimed that his sister was abducted by Nevzat Bahtiyar. Baran also claimed that he had been subjected to violence in his previous statements and that this was why he had told the truth in a different way. Baran also accused the other defendants, claiming that important evidence related to the murder was attempted to be blacked out and pointed to Bahtiyar as the main culprit of the incident. Although no definitive information about the case was available during the trial, these contradictory statements added to the complexity of the case.

Inconsistency in Witness Statements

The most striking point during the testimonies of the witnesses was the change in their previous statements in court. Birsen Güran, one of Narin’s relatives, had claimed in her first statement that she had seen Narin at 17.40 on the day she disappeared with the guidance of her uncle Salim Güran. However, she corrected this statement in court, stating that she had actually misrepresented herself and that this was not the case. It was also observed that Birsen had emotional moments while talking about the details of the incident.

Another witness, Maşallah Güran, stated that the person who came at 17.40 was not Narin but Mina and that he had mistaken her for Narin due to a misunderstanding. When the judge reminded him that “Everyone knows everything, don’t make me talk”, Maşallah denied this claim as well.

Nevzat Bakhtiar’s wife: “Nevzat was forced to take the blame”

Gazal Bahtiyar, wife of Nevzat Bahtiyar, claimed that the family made material and moral promises to her husband to take responsibility for the murder. Gazal stated that her husband was forced to take the blame by offering him land and money and that he was left alone by his family. Gazal’s testimony resonated in the courtroom.

Family Conflicts and Mysterious Meetings

During Baran Güran’s testimony, the judge noted that the family had held some secret meetings and that a hidden camera was installed in the uncle’s house before Narin’s death. However, Baran denied these allegations and defended himself by saying, “Secret meetings are not held at home.” The judge also focused on the question of whether domestic disputes were behind the murder and emphasized the need to examine the relationships between family members.

Diyarbakır Bar Association lawyer Nahit Eren took the floor and shared some details about Narin’s autopsy report. At this point, Narin’s father Arif Güran had emotional moments and expressed his reaction by saying “My daughter was murdered, kill me too”. The father fainted and was taken from the courtroom to the hospital by ambulance. Father Arif Güran’s reaction caused tension in the courtroom.

Children’s Testimonies and New Contradictions

Children under the age of 18 who were called to testify during the trial were remotely connected to the hearing via SEGBİS system. The testimonies of the children were taken in the presence of a psychologist. Narin’s brother M.E.G. said that he did not know anything about the bite marks on his brother Enes’ body. Also, Salim Güran’s daughter G.G. stated that Enes never came to their house.

M.G., the daughter of Maşallah Güran, described the tense moments on the day Narin disappeared, stating that there was a verbal argument between her mother and Narin’s aunt and that she reacted to this situation.

New Confessions and Denials from the Defendants

Uncle Salim Güran’s worker, Selim Atasoy, had stated in his first statement that Salim’s legs were wet, but denied this in court. Atasoy stated that Salim had never asked him or his son for anything. Ramazan Atasoy, who was also heard as a witness, refused to testify in court.

Allegations of Tension between Women in Court

Towards the end of the trial, the Presiding Judge called Narin’s grandmother Remziye Cabaş to the stand to testify. Cabaş stated that she had not witnessed the alleged arguments between the women in the family.
