Ankara MP Mustafa Nedim Yamalı resigned from the Future Party and joined the AK Party. President Erdoğan pinned his badge on Yamalı.
Nedim Yamalı Returns to AK Party
Ankara MP Mustafa Nedim Yamalı opened a new chapter in his political journey by joining the AK Party after resigning from the Future Party. Yamalı’s party change also affected the balance in Parliament. President and AK Party Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan pinned the AK Party badge on Yamalı at his party’s group meeting, making his return official.
Balance Changed in Parliament
Yamalı’s resignation has created a significant change in the distribution of the Saadet-Future Group in Parliament. According to the Parliamentary Rules of Procedure, a group must have at least 20 deputies in order to survive. With Yamalı’s resignation, this number dropped to 19 and the Saadet-Gelecek Group officially ceased to be a parliamentary group.
Conservative Unity Message
Commenting on his decision to join the AK Party, Nedim Yamalı said that conservative wings should act together. Yamalı defended his return to the AK Party by saying, “I believe that political structures that share similar values should be under the same roof. We will continue the struggle from where we left off.”
Erdoğan Pinned the Badge
President Erdoğan pinned his badge on Mustafa Nedim Yamalı at the GNAT Group Meeting. Erdoğan stated that Yamalı’s experience will add strength to the AK Party and that this step is an important move for conservative politics.
Critical Loss for Future Party
Yamalı’s resignation weakened the Future Party’s power in Parliament. The Saadet-Gelecek Group lost its group status as the number of MPs dropped to 19. This will lead to difficulties in parliamentary voice and committee representation.
AK Party’s Power Increases
With Nedim Yamalı joining the AK Party, the party has further consolidated its power in Parliament. The AK Party argued that this participation would increase political solidarity and strengthen unity among voters with conservative values.
Yamalı Calls for Unity
Yamalı, who said he felt the need to support political stability during his short time as an independent, announced his decision to join the AK Party with a call for unity in the conservative community. “We will continue to fight in these ranks,” Yamalı said, adding that he would support his party’s policies in the new term.
Reactions from the opposition were not delayed
Yamalı’s resignation was met with reactions from opposition parties. The Saadet Party and the Future Party argued that the resignation was politically motivated and that party groups should be protected. AK Party officials, however, said that this was a natural process and that Yamalı would contribute to the party with his experience.
