Transparency Steps Taken for Efficient Use of Resources in Esenyurt Municipality

Irregularities in the Esenyurt Municipality have become a heavy bill: Vehicle Waste Revealed!

In Esenyurt Municipality, the shady expenditures of former Mayor Ahmet Özer’s term are coming to light one by one. As a result of the investigations carried out in the municipality administration, the irregular allocation of office vehicles and the extent of waste became clear. It was determined that the office vehicles, which cost a total of 5.5 million TL, were allocated to people who had no legal right. The new administration took steps to save money by returning these vehicles.

Private Vehicle Allocation to Brother-in-law
It was revealed that 10 people, including Ahmet Özer’s brother-in-law Metin Günsan, who was his advisor during his mayoral term, were allocated office cars. The annual rental cost of the vehicles amounted to 5.5 million TL. This situation revealed how resources were wasted in the municipality.

Ahmet Özer was dismissed after his arrest on October 30 on charges of membership in a terrorist organization, and Istanbul Deputy Governor Can Aksoy was appointed in his place. Aksoy ordered an investigation into all irregularities in the municipality as soon as he took office.

Steps to Prevent Waste
Deputy Mayor Can Aksoy took swift steps to cancel not only office vehicles but also other questionable expenditures. After terminating the contracts of the vehicles, Aksoy ensured that they were taken back, saving the municipality budget 5.5 million TL.

Other Savings Measures
In the municipality, not only office vehicles but also previous tenders were scrutinized. The 19 million TL ‘fair and interviews with writers’ tender made during Özer’s term was canceled. In addition, the office vehicle worth 6 million TL allocated for the mayor was returned. It was announced that a total of 30.5 million TL was saved with these steps.

Reaction from Esenyurt People
The revelation of irregularities caused a great reaction among the people of Esenyurt. Citizens raised their voices against the situation on social media when they learned that municipal resources were used for personal interests instead of serving the public. The new administration’s steps towards austerity and transparency have been appreciated by the public.

Determination to Fight Corruption
Deputy Mayor Aksoy emphasized that municipal resources should be used efficiently and said, “From now on, Esenyurt Municipality will act with a management approach that protects the interests of the people. We will end waste and use our resources for our people.”

This waste scandal in Esenyurt Municipality has once again brought up the debate on transparency and accountability in municipalities. Citizens demand that all public institutions be audited with the same sensitivity.
