Turkey’s first domestic communication satellite, Turksat 6A, has entered orbit. It will start service with full capacity in 2025.
Turksat 6A in Orbit: Turkey’s Power in Space Increases
Turkey has taken another important step that strengthens its claim in space technologies. Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, announced that the domestic and national communication satellite Türksat 6A was successfully placed in orbit at 42 degrees east. Minister Uraloğlu stated that the satellite will start to serve at full capacity in the first quarter of 2025, emphasizing that Turkey will have a say in the global satellite market.
Journey to Space and Test Process
Turksat 6A was launched into space from SpaceX’s Cape Canaveral base on July 9. The satellite, which temporarily settled in 50 degrees east orbit, was moved to its permanent orbit after successfully completing its tests. Türksat 6A, which is currently in geosynchronous orbit 35,786 kilometers away, will be in active service after the final stage tests.
Minister Uraloğlu stated that this development is a historic step for Turkey and said, “Turksat 6A proves Turkey’s independence in space technologies. We will now have a say in the global market by producing our own satellites.”
Will Serve 65 Percent of the World Population
The coverage area of Turksat 6A will be quite wide. The satellite, which will strengthen Turkey’s existing communication network, will also cover Asian countries such as India, Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia. In total, it will reach 5 billion people, serving 65 percent of the world’s population.
In this way, Turkey will expand its borders in telecommunications, broadcasting and internet services and make its communication infrastructure more reliable.
Technological Cooperation and Domestic Production Success
Turksat 6A was developed entirely with domestic and national resources. Turkey’s leading technology companies such as ASELSAN, TAI, TÜBİTAK UZAY and CTECH collaborated in the project. The production process contributed to the development of Turkey’s engineering capabilities and the increase of its know-how in space technologies.
Minister Uraloğlu stated that this project will increase Turkey’s export capacity and make it competitive with other countries. Türksat 6A will play a critical role not only in the field of communication, but also in terms of strategic security and data transfer.
Turkey’s Future in Space
Turksat 6A will not only strengthen Turkey’s presence in space, but will also create an infrastructure for space research. Minister Uraloğlu stated that the satellite, which will be commissioned in 2025, will accelerate the country’s space program and make Turkey one of the leading countries in this field.
“With this project, Turkey has become not only a user but also a producer and exporter country. We are now a global player in space.”
Importance of Turksat 6A
The new satellite will enable Turkey to build a stronger infrastructure in the communications and broadcasting sector, while providing increased speed and reliability in services such as internet access and data transfer. It will play a critical role especially in natural disasters and emergencies with its capacity to provide uninterrupted communication.
Turkey’s Global Vision
Minister Uraloğlu touched upon the global importance of Turksat 6A and said that the project has increased Turkey’s strategic power. He emphasized that Turkey has created a reliable and fast communication network in sea, land, air and space thanks to communication satellites.
