Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky arrived in Istanbul for his visit to Turkey. Turkish officials welcomed Zelensky and his accompanying delegation at Atatürk Airport. The delegation was accompanied by Mehmet Zahit Uzun, Deputy Representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Istanbul, Adem Uslu, District Governor of Zeytinburnu and Brigadier General Ali İhsan Bulut, Deputy Chief of Staff of the 1st Army.
The main purpose of the visit is a meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. During the meeting, issues such as the course of the war between Ukraine and Russia, the search for regional peace and the continuation of the Grain Corridor Agreement will be discussed. In addition, strengthening Turkey-Ukraine relations and strategic cooperation steps are expected to be discussed.
Zelensky’s visit to Turkey was previously organized between the two leaders. On July 7, 2023, during this visit, Erdogan and Zelensky held important head-to-head and delegation meetings. In addition, protocols strengthening strategic cooperation between the two countries were signed.
Zelenskiy’s visit is seen as an indication of the friendly relations and cooperation between Turkey and Ukraine. Turkey’s support for Ukraine’s territorial integrity and sovereignty and its contributions to regional peace increase the importance of the visit.
